Job Title: Payroll Specialist

We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to manage and process payroll for our organization. The ideal candidate will ensure that employee compensation is accurate, timely, and complies with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process payroll on a regular schedule for all employees.
  • Accurately calculate wages, overtime, deductions, and taxes.
  • Manage and maintain payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and employee status changes.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and deductions.
  • Prepare and distribute payroll reports for management.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
  • Collaborate with HR and accounting teams to ensure accurate processing of benefits and deductions.
  • Reconcile payroll discrepancies and resolve any issues related to timesheets or compensation.
  • Manage year-end reporting, including W-2s and other tax documents.
  • Stay updated on payroll best practices and legislative changes.

This opportunity involves working with a government agency in Sonoma County, dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of transportation infrastructure and passengers.

Requirements:
  • Proven experience as a Payroll Specialist, Payroll Administrator, or similar role.
  • In-depth understanding of payroll processes, wage laws, and tax regulations.
  • Proficiency in payroll software (Kronos) and MS Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and general ledger processes is a plus.
