Software Engineer III

At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. We're seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer III to join our team and contribute to the design, implementation, and verification of software for test systems that test the functionality and safety of flight hardware.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing and implementing software that automates test campaigns
  • Producing documentation for software architecture, design, verification, and configuration management
  • Defining and developing verifiable software requirements, architecture, and designs
  • Developing tests to ensure code meets safety-critical standards and functions
  • Conducting trade-studies and developing prototypes to prove architecture and design concepts/quantify technical risks

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of proven experience writing software and deploying it to a production environment
  • Strong software development skills, particularly in Python and C/C++
  • Familiarity with real-time operating systems and Linux
  • Experience with LabVIEW for avionics test and measurement applications
  • Strong debugging skills at the software/hardware boundary, and familiarity with software verification approaches
  • Critical thinking when reviewing system requirements to write software
  • Hard working teammate with excellent technical written and verbal communication
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, or related technical field with equivalent years of experience
  • Experience developing and testing real-time embedded systems (including APIs, interfaces, and device drivers)
  • Experience with software systems that follow DO-178, DO-330, or similar guidelines
  • Direct hands-on experience with GNU toolchain, Serial Communications (RS-232 and TTL), IP networking, UDP/TCP, I2C, UART, ZMQ, etc.
  • Experience with agile development methods
  • Experience with tools such as Git (Gitlab/GitHub), DOORs, DOORs Next Generation (DNG), Jama, Artifactory, and Docker
  • Exposure to software development on embedded systems with I/O transducers: displacement, rate, and acceleration sensors; pressure and temperature sensors; servo and solenoid actuators; etc.
  • Proven understanding of hardware components such as an MMU, MAC, DMA, Flash, etc.
  • Experience with debuggers, profiling, and tracing

Relocation and Travel:

Relocation provided. Travel expected up to 10% of the time.

Compensation Range:

WA applicants: $141,480.00-$198,072.00. Other site ranges may differ.
