Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Lifeguard I to join our Aquatics team at the YMCA of Greater Boston. As a Lifeguard I, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of all pool patrons, enforcing pool rules, and implementing emergency protocols as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prevent Emergencies: Continuously scan the pool area to identify potential hazards and take proactive measures to prevent accidents.
  • Recognize and Respond to Emergencies: Immediately address any emergencies or potential incidents that arise, and activate the branch and pool emergency action plan as needed.
  • Perform Assists and Rescues: Provide assistance or perform rescues as necessary to ensure the safety of pool patrons.
  • Provide Care: Administer CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen as needed to ensure the well-being of pool patrons.
  • Complete Incident Reports: Accurately and thoroughly complete incident reports in a timely manner to ensure that all incidents are documented and addressed.
  • Enforce Pool Rules: Consistently enforce pool rules and regulations to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all pool patrons.
  • Maintain a Clean and Safe Pool Environment: Ensure that the pool area is clean and safe at all times, and assist with cleaning and testing of the pool when not on duty.
  • Communicate Effectively: Maintain clear and consistent communication with all supervisors and team members to ensure that all safety protocols are followed and that any issues are addressed promptly.
  • Participate in Training and Development: Participate in all branch safety and quality drills, and attend all required monthly and yearly in-service trainings to ensure that you are up-to-date on all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Arrive on Time and Be Prepared: Arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of your scheduled shift, and ensure that all doors are securely locked when you are not on duty.
  • Engage with Members: Engage in active listening with members to build relationships, understand their goals and interests, and take the initiative to assist them in achieving their goals.
  • Maintain a Professional Image: Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals at all times.
