We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomy Specialist to join our team at Geisinger Medical Laboratories. As a Phlebotomist II, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care through innovative, efficient, and high-quality laboratory services.
About the RoleThis is a part-time opportunity with variable shifts, including potential float assignments to other clinic sites. You will be responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients in our inpatient setting, as well as processing specimens for testing and troubleshooting physician orders.
Key Responsibilities- Perform venipunctures and skin punctures on all age groups, from neonates through adults, to obtain blood specimens according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
- Exhibit knowledge of adequate and correct collection requirements, perform accessioning procedures accurately, and recognize and resolve discrepancies as necessary.
- Evaluate specimen suitability and acceptability, resolve or refer problems as appropriate, and maintain Point of Care instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control records.
- Handle and replenish reagents and supplies according to established protocols, follow established reporting procedures, and record and report problems and solutions as needed.
- Navigate and access multiple computer applications as required, adhering to related policies and procedures, including compliance policies.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- A minimum of 1 year of related work experience, preferably as a nursing assistant (NA), certified nursing assistant (CNA), medical assistant (MA), certified medical assistant (CMA) or similar.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills to explain the blood drawing process to patients and demonstrate a comforting attitude towards them.
- The ability to navigate and access multiple computer applications as required.
