Overview of Responsibilities

As a vital member of the healthcare team, you will deliver primary skin care to residents under the guidance of attending physicians, the Director of Nursing, or the Medical Director. Your focus will be on the treatment and management of skin conditions, ensuring that the care provided aligns with the residents' physical and emotional needs while adhering to established medical protocols and facility policies.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with the Director of Nursing Services and other licensed nursing staff regarding residents' dermatological issues.
  2. Engage with the Care Planning Team to assess and develop individualized skin care treatment plans.
  3. Initiate referrals and respond to inquiries from residents, physicians, or nursing staff.
  4. Conduct thorough examinations of residents, reviewing their medical history to identify when further medical evaluation is necessary.
  5. Complete necessary medical documentation, including forms, reports, and evaluations.
  6. Provide comprehensive updates and recommendations to the attending physician and nursing leadership regarding resident care.
  7. Participate in the Interdisciplinary Care Plan Team to create holistic assessments and care strategies for residents.
  8. Deliver regular status updates on residents undergoing treatment.
  9. Implement recommendations from relevant committees concerning medical practices and skin care.
  10. Offer direct patient care as needed to fulfill residents' requirements.
  11. Foster positive relationships with healthcare professionals, families, and consultants involved in resident care.
  12. Supervise Certified Nursing Assistants in accordance with care plans and regulatory guidelines.
  13. Identify and manage various skin disorders, including but not limited to abrasions, ulcers, and infections.
  14. Perform detailed assessments utilizing observation and inspection techniques.
  15. Conduct quarterly dermatological evaluations and document findings.
  16. Ensure residents with pressure ulcers receive appropriate preventive care and treatment.
  17. Provide immediate nursing care during emergencies and assist residents with coping strategies.
  18. Support the admission and discharge processes for residents.
  19. Offer preventive health guidance, including nutritional advice and skin care education.
  20. Assist in monitoring the supply of medical and skin care products to ensure availability.
  21. Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must have completed an accredited nursing program and hold a current nursing license in the State of Alabama. A minimum of one year of nursing experience is required, with a preference for training in rehabilitative and dermatological care.

Physical Demands
  1. Ability to move throughout the facility during the workday.
  2. Capacity to manage the mental and emotional demands of the role.
  3. Ability to reach, bend, and stoop as necessary.
  4. Must possess adequate vision and hearing, with or without assistive devices.
  5. Capability to lift and move at least 100 pounds using proper techniques.
  6. Willingness to stand or walk for the majority of the workday.
