Position Overview

Key Responsibilities:

All staff at KIPP Nashville share the responsibility of ensuring that every student achieves the academic skills, intellectual habits, and character traits essential for success in top colleges and universities. KIPP Nashville is in search of Outstanding Special Education Support Staff to assist students with disabilities across various schools throughout the academic year. The Special Education Support Staff will work collaboratively with classroom and special education teachers to foster student success in both inclusion and resource settings.

Specific Duties Include:
  • Facilitating students' engagement in instructional and classroom activities as directed by teachers across an entire grade level.
  • Assisting with direct academic, functional, and/or tailored instructional or physical activities.
  • Supervising and accompanying students to various locations such as the office, bus, classroom, and cafeteria.
  • Maintaining regular communication with classroom teachers, related service professionals, and parents regarding students' needs and progress.
  • Providing support in managing disruptive or aggressive behaviors, which may involve physical management techniques (training will be provided).
  • Assisting with toileting needs for students as required.
  • Supporting administrative and instructional tasks, including individual and small group instruction, as well as conducting student assessments.
  • Participating in professional development opportunities at both the school and regional levels.
  • Potentially working with various students across different school buildings.
  • Meeting KIPP professionalism standards as outlined in the KIPP Instructional Excellence Rubric.
  • Accurately completing timesheets and working overtime as pre-approved by management.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Preferred Experience:
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Background Check (Required).
  • Experience working with students with disabilities and/or their caregivers.
  • Ability to engage in physical management techniques when necessary.
  • Experience working with students with physical, emotional, and/or intellectual disabilities.
  • Familiarity with classroom management and child development principles.
  • Knowledge of CPR and basic first aid techniques is advantageous.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Starting salary is $37,400.
  • The compensation package is aligned with the regional KIPP Nashville Public Schools pay scale. This position is exempt and follows a 10-month work schedule.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance options, effective upon the first of the month following the start date.
  • Employees receive 29 paid days throughout the 10-month work schedule, including holidays and breaks, along with 6 PTO days, with additional days accrued after every two consecutive years of employment.
  • Eligible staff members receive payment for unused PTO days at the end of the fiscal year.
