Job Title: Affordable Housing Certification Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Certification Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in affordable housing programs, regulatory compliance, and certification processes. This role requires excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the certification process for affordable housing properties, ensuring timely and accurate completion of certifications and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct applicant and resident certification interviews, gathering necessary documentation and completing certification files with a high level of accuracy.
  • Process certification files in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain positive and professional communication with onsite staff, portfolio managers, and compliance team members.
  • Keep immediate supervisor informed of work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.
  • Update internal tracking systems in a timely manner.
  • Respond promptly to community directors, portfolio managers, compliance specialists, and compliance directors.
  • Assist with the initial qualifying process for new construction lease-up properties, re-syndications, and/or acquisition/rehab of existing properties, as assigned.
  • Be flexible to adjust priorities and assigned properties.
  • Other responsibilities include consistently and fairly enforcing community rules and regulations, complying with all Fair Housing Laws and FPI policies and procedures, promoting a professional image by adhering to FPI Management's Dress Code Policy, and conducting all interactions with employees, residents, prospective residents, clients, vendors, and guests in a professional manner.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience with affordable housing programs and layering, and regulatory compliance in one or more programs such as LIHTC, HUD programs (Project Based Section 8, Section 236, PRAC, 811 PRA), USDA-Rural Development (515), HCD, HOME Funds and Bonds.
  • High School diploma or equivalency certificate required. College degree in a relatable field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and work experience in the field of property management.
  • Affordable Housing/Tax Credit certification, preferred (C3P, HCCP, HCP-E, COS, TCS, CPO, FHC, NAHP, NAHPe, SCHM, etc.).
  • Valid Driver's License, a good driving record, current motor vehicle insurance which meets State requirements, and an operable vehicle that meets FPI's Driving Standards and Personal Vehicle Use policy.
  • Must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in English.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, Google Apps, property management-related software, email, internet).
