Job Description

Ryder is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic Technician to join our team in Mobile, Alabama. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing routine preventative maintenance, diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electronic issues, and ensuring our fleet of heavy-duty vehicles is in top condition.

Responsibilities
  • Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including routine preventative maintenance and diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electronic issues.
  • Inspect and repair standard vehicle components, including brakes, tires, and suspension systems.
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computer systems when applicable.
  • Identify root causes of basic failures and perform repairs as required.
  • Replace defective components as instructed.
  • Perform facility maintenance duties, including cleaning and organization of the shop area.
  • Interact with customers/drivers to properly determine the nature of their complaint once assigned a task.
  • Utilize key functions of the Shop Management System and electronic documentation available.
  • Work in accordance with all federal and corporate compliance guidelines, including safety and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Vocational or technical certification, post-secondary degree, or technical certifications preferred.
  • Basic tools required.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance.
  • Two years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience in required experience preferred.
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A preferred.
  • This position requires the ability to drive Ryder vehicles. In order to become a Ryder employee, you must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire, pass a Ryder drug test, pass a DOT physical, pass a Ryder road test, and pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years.
