Job Summary

We are seeking a proactive, industrious, and enthusiastic candidate to join our team as a Barista Team Member. As a key member of our coffeehouse team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, preparing high-quality coffee drinks, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide impeccable and efficient customer service to students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
  • Prepare and serve high-quality coffee drinks, including espresso, cappuccino, and latte.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including the espresso bar and surrounding areas.
  • Restock supplies and ingredients as needed.
  • Assist with daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Participate in tasks involved with preparing espresso, catering, and coffee.
  • Learn and master the skills involved with producing quality coffee.
  • Maintain attention to detail and focus on shop duties even during slow times.
  • Be mindful of product waste and work towards operating an efficient and sustainable coffee shop.

Requirements

  • High school education, registered undergraduate student at American University.
  • Must have reliable transportation and the ability to be punctual starting at 6:45am on some mornings.
  • Must be a current undergraduate student enrolled at American University.
  • Adhere to health code standards at all times.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Be enthusiastic and able to present creative ideas and provide input on shop matters.
  • Understand the proper usage of coffee brewing equipment.

Preferred Requirements

  • Barista experience.
  • Food service experience.

  • Students who hold a FWS award are highly encouraged to apply.
  • This position is available only to enrolled American University students.
