Candidates should possess an academic background in mathematics or a related discipline OR have completed 32 semester hours, including 19 upper-division credits in mathematics AND have achieved passing scores on the Praxis II Mathematics Content Knowledge 5161. Alternatively, candidates may have passing scores on the Praxis II Mathematics Content Knowledge 5161 along with a minimum of ten to eighteen semester hours of advanced mathematics courses (300 or 400 level) with a grade of C or higher. Those intending to instruct middle school (grades 4-8) must have passing scores on the Middle School Math Praxis.

The Praxis II Exam is tailored for individuals with a strong foundation in mathematics. Thus, those with a substantial number of college-level mathematics courses are more likely to succeed on the exam. Courses such as bookkeeping and accounting do not qualify as mathematics courses; they are categorized as business courses. Passing scores on the Praxis are essential for long-term employment.

Candidates must maintain a minimum 2.50 GPA on a 4.0 scale in their undergraduate degree from an accredited institution. Individuals with Master's Degrees are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants with a GPA between 2.0 and 2.74 may apply but must achieve a higher alternate score on the Praxis. Candidates should attach their Bachelor's degree transcript and Praxis Scores to their online application or Master's degree transcript if applicable. Applications with transcripts and Praxis scores will be prioritized.

If the Math Praxis is not passed prior to hiring, it MUST be completed by the conclusion of the Emergency Certificate period to be eligible for rehire.

Expenses for examinations are the responsibility of the teacher applicant. Four college courses from an accredited institution in Alabama are required to transition to the Provisional Certificate and for continued employment, with those costs also borne by the teacher.

Compensation: As per the State Matrix, contingent on qualifications and experience. Initial salary for Bachelor's degree holders: $44,225.00.

**Candidates selected for certified roles must undergo a criminal history background check and be deemed suitable to teach according to state regulations. Additionally, candidates must successfully complete a drug screening test as part of the selection process.**
