Your Responsibilities:
  • As a Paramedic with Paramedic Services of Illinois, you will play a crucial role in our operations, responding to emergency situations and delivering vital medical care to those in need. Your key duties will include:
  • Responding swiftly to emergency calls and evaluating the medical requirements of patients.
  • Administering suitable medical interventions and treatments in accordance with established protocols and guidelines.
  • Exhibiting the capability to safely lift, transfer, and maneuver patients in and out of ambulances, healthcare facilities, residences, and other locations.
  • Effectively communicating with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and other emergency responders to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care.
  • Completing and maintaining precise records and documentation regarding transport, equipment inspections, supply usage incidents, and other necessary documentation related to operations.
  • Demonstrating compliance with continuing education and licensure requirements as mandated by PSI and/or the Department of Health.
  • Maintaining a neat and complete uniform, personal hygiene, and a professional, courteous demeanor towards all individuals encountered while on duty.
  • Inspecting and promptly reporting any damage, deficiencies, safety concerns, or other issues with ambulances, company vehicles, equipment, and supplies, as well as assisting with vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • Engaging in public education, public relations, public health safety initiatives, emergency medical service training, fire training, fire prevention efforts, fire suppression, rescue operations, hazardous material situations, demonstrations, and any other activities that would benefit the organization and the communities we serve.
  • Responding to fire alarms with the assigned company; laying and connecting hoses; maintaining pumping apparatus; directing water streams; raising and climbing ladders; ventilating burning structures; and entering buildings to evacuate occupants.
  • Operating various types of fire operation and rescue equipment, including portable fire extinguishers, pike poles, hand lines, smoke ejectors, salvage covers, forcible entry tools, aerial ladder equipment, and emergency medical equipment.
  • Preserving evidence at fire scenes.
  • Conducting search and rescue operations in hazardous environments, including collapsed structures, vehicle accidents, hazardous material spills, and confined spaces.
  • Participating in specialized training in firefighting emergency medical techniques; performing drills with other engine company personnel; familiarizing oneself with city layouts, established response routes, and hydrant systems; and preparing and maintaining a variety of firefighting preplan drawings and schematics.
  • Assisting in the training of fire department personnel in emergency medical techniques and medical field activities; maintaining an inventory of medications and controlled substances.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Current/Valid Illinois Driver's License of appropriate classification
  • Successful completion of a Paramedic program and maintenance of a current/valid Illinois Department of Public Health License
  • Ability to fulfill continuing education and testing requirements for the assigned system
  • State of Illinois Firefighter Certifications (for Firefighter applicants)
  • Successful completion of a professional and criminal background check
  • Passing pre-employment testing, including a Fit for Duty Physical, Drug Screening, Agility, and Lifting Evaluation
