Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM
Role Overview:
The Early Childhood Educator will take the lead in the classroom, responsible for designing and executing educational programs for preschool-aged children or infants/toddlers in alignment with federal performance standards. This role also involves participating in quality assurance initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engaging daily lesson plans that support educational and enrichment activities for preschool-aged children or infants and toddlers, adhering to federal performance standards.
- Organize and arrange classroom spaces into distinct learning areas that foster an effective educational atmosphere.
- Evaluate and assess children's developmental and educational needs, creating and executing individualized education plans that meet federal standards.
- Supervise meal and snack times, classroom activities, and outdoor play to ensure a safe environment for young children.
- Manage inventory of food services and supplies to ensure adequacy.
- Document children's developmental progress and complete all necessary reports in compliance with federal requirements.
- Initiate referrals for children to the Center Director through formal documentation.
- Coordinate classroom activities for parent and community volunteers.
- Participate in workshops and meetings to share and gather information.
- Engage with parents through conferences, written communication, and phone calls to update them on their child's progress and classroom activities.
- Conduct health checks on children for any health concerns and report findings to the Health Coordinator.
- Ensure that lessons and activities are in line with Florida Pre-Kindergarten standards.
- Conduct Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten assessments as required.
- Ensure that a minimum of 80% of children are prepared for kindergarten.
- Facilitate quality interactions with children to achieve CLASS scores above the lowest 10% threshold in each domain.
- Utilize active supervision techniques to maintain positive behavior in the classroom.
- Achieve satisfactory or higher ratings on the Teacher Success Rubric.
- Maintain a comprehensive portfolio for each child, including weekly observations and developmental assessments.
- Use home visits and parent conferences to discuss individual child development and solicit parental insights.
- Report any suspected child abuse or neglect to the appropriate state agency.
- Plan and oversee field trips for assigned children.
- Order necessary supplies and equipment for special needs children in the classroom.
- Assist in the transportation of special needs children as required.
- Inspect classrooms and outdoor areas to ensure safety and cleanliness.
- Review and submit accident and incident reports.
- Collaborate with other Head Start/Early Head Start staff regarding child and family concerns.
- Administer First Aid and CPR as necessary.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:
Must be capable of lifting at least 45 pounds and providing physical assistance in transporting special needs children. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, with coursework equivalent to a major in Early Childhood Education and experience teaching preschool-aged children.
- Teaching credentials recognized by the local school district or state education agency for Pre-K teachers, with at least 500 hours of experience in an early childhood setting.
- Completion of State of Florida Child Care Facility Training, including required courses in Developmentally Appropriate Practices for Preschoolers.
Minimum of two years of experience teaching preschool or kindergarten-aged children, preferably in Head Start or Early Head Start programs.
Bilingual candidates (English/Spanish or other languages) are preferred.
Certification in First Aid and CPR is required within 90 days of hire, along with successful completion of a Level II background screening and drug screening prior to employment.
Skills:
- Knowledge of brain development and its influence on early learning.
- Understanding of child development from birth to age five for both typical and atypical children.
- Familiarity with culturally relevant practices in early childhood education.
- Ability to implement developmentally appropriate practices and current educational techniques.
- Strong verbal communication skills with young children.
- Capability to resolve conflicts among preschool-aged children.
- Ability to plan, organize, and supervise educational programs effectively.
- Proficiency in data collection, organization, and evaluation.
- Competence in maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others and provide physical assistance as needed.
