Position Overview:
Join TridentCare as a full-time Laboratory Specimen Technician, working from Saturday to Wednesday. This role offers a competitive pay rate based on experience, ranging from $18.00 to $19.00 per hour.

Key Responsibilities:
Upon receipt of specimens, accurately designate the testing locations for each requested analysis on the corresponding requisition.

Ensure that the appropriate specimen is gathered for each test request, with the correct tube types documented in the left margin of the requisition.

Verify that the patient's complete name, date and time of collection, and phlebotomist's identification number are accurately filled in on the requisition, and ensure that specimen barcodes (with the correct letter prefix) are affixed to all patient specimens.

Responsible for notifying the facility and completing necessary documentation if a redraw is required due to:

- QNS PT & PTT;
- Incorrectly spelled or missing names on requisition or specimen;
- Mislabeled accession numbers or names;
- Specimens not received.

Process redraw orders from a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) if any specimen is deemed unsuitable for the requested test due to integrity, quantity, or appropriateness for the required laboratory analysis.

Ensure that all patient requisitions are scanned into the Filebound system.


Properly centrifuge all relevant specimens for the correct duration to guarantee sufficient serum or plasma for necessary testing.
Direct in-house specimens to the appropriate laboratory benches for analysis.

Route reference laboratory specimens, along with a copy of the requisition, to the reference lab desk for inclusion in the TRK Sendout Manifest for the Burbank laboratory.

Accurately prepare reference lab coolers with the correct documentation, adhering to federal regulations for "Biological Substances

  • Category B.
" Prepare a copy of the DL requisition for any local reference lab, clearly indicating the DL account number and tests to be performed by this lab.

Notify Dispatch for transfers, whether a cooler is sent to the airport or a courier is dispatched to a local reference lab.

Regularly check in-house testing areas for completed specimens to electronically store them for any future add-on tests or repeats.

Maintain proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times to safeguard against infectious materials.

Qualifications:


High School Diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 2 months of training in specimen collection if no prior experience is noted.

Demonstrated knowledge of specimen collection relevant to the requested tests, including lab test requirements.

Adequate understanding of factors influencing test results and familiarity with medical (laboratory) terminology is advantageous.
