HVAC Technician

Position Overview:

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is looking for a meticulous Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) technician to perform essential maintenance tasks related to cooling and refrigeration systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct preventive maintenance and repairs on all HVAC and refrigeration systems, including evaporative coolers, air conditioning units, chillers, walk-in freezers, and heating systems.
• Plan and schedule maintenance projects, including material and equipment procurement.
• Oversee inspections and assess the performance of inmate workers.
• Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring proper records and documentation are kept.
• Drive for state-related business as required.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

• Operating principles of various cooling, refrigeration, and ventilation systems.
• Diagnostic tools and procedures for identifying equipment malfunctions.
• Maintenance and installation procedures for a variety of HVAC systems, including large commercial setups.

Skills in:

• Reading and interpreting technical drawings and schematics.
• Estimating project costs and managing material orders.
• Effective written and verbal communication.
• Implementing safety practices and maintaining accurate records.

Ability to:

• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Push and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Walk or run distances of up to 0.25 miles.
• Build and maintain professional relationships.
• Comply with all departmental regulations and adapt to changing priorities.
• Work effectively in a correctional facility environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two years of experience in servicing, repairing, or installing cooling and refrigeration systems, along with four years of journey-level experience is preferred.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

HVAC certification is required at the time of appointment. Employment is contingent upon passing a background check, drug screening, and medical examination. All employees must complete a Tuberculosis (TB) test during orientation and annually thereafter.
