Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Campus Police Officer at the Johns Hopkins University. As a key member of our Campus and Community Patrol department, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol and Security Services: Conduct uniformed patrols of the Homewood Campus and surrounding areas to prevent and respond to security incidents.
  • Community Policing: Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the surrounding community to promote a culture of safety and respect.
  • Incident Response: Respond to emergency calls and incidents, and take appropriate action to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of individuals and property.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Accurately and thoroughly document incidents, and prepare reports to support investigations and decision-making.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other departments and stakeholders to share information, coordinate responses, and ensure a unified approach to security and safety.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent, and two years of experience in security or a related field.
  • Certifications and Training: Must be able to become certified as a Special Police Officer by the State of Maryland, and complete a physical/health screening examination by the Office of Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Skills and Abilities: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and proficiency in using computer software programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional Education: Some college or associate degree, or additional education that may substitute for required experience.
  • Law Enforcement or Military Experience: Five years of related law enforcement or prior military experience.
Working Conditions

This is a non-sworn, unarmed position that requires working a variety of shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime. The successful candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, and be willing to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
