Land Use Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Land Use Engineer to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting with the administration of land development projects, permit approvals, and subdivision inspection and acceptance.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with the administration of land development projects, including permit approvals and subdivision inspection and acceptance.
- Work with local government officials, developers, consultants, and VDOT staff to assess the soundness of designs and the impacts of land development applications on the state-maintained road network.
- Perform technical reviews of engineering plans, including site plans, subdivision plans, roadway plans, and utility plans.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including local government officials, developers, and consultants.
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings and plans.
- Knowledge of applying roadway geometric design and other engineering principles.
- Ability to apply subdivision street requirements, entrance standards, and road design standards.
- Ability to apply VDOT's guidance and standards to reviews and provide clear and concise comments to stakeholders.
- Ability to apply land use permit policies, construction practices, materials requirements, and street acceptance procedures.
- Detailed oriented with the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences.
- Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
- Valid driver's license.
- Background in plan reviews, design, and/or traffic engineering.
- EIT or PE license, DCR certification as Plan Reviewer, or ability to obtain.
- Demonstrated experience in land development plan review or experience in the application of engineering principles to highway construction projects.
