Job Title: Probation AssistantMerced County, CA is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Probation Assistant to join our team. As a Probation Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Probation Department in maintaining public safety and providing services to probationers.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist in tracking a caseload of probationers and ensuring that all fines and assessments are paid prior to expiration of probation.
- Request courtesy supervision if necessary when probationers move from Merced County.
- Return cases to Deputy Probation Officers for active supervision in appropriate situations.
- Assist Deputy Probation Officers in adult/juvenile investigations and cases.
- Process and transport clients, and perform follow-up duties concerning delinquent payments.
- Administer drug testing to clients according to established procedures and guidelines.
- Interview defendants at the County Jail and minors at the Juvenile Justice Facility.
- Provide court reports on pre-trial detainees and oversee individuals during the pre-trial process.
- Communicate with personnel from other agencies concerning the status/back grounds of probationers.
- Conduct oral presentations before groups of probationers.
- Equivalent to sixty (60) units from an accredited college or university with at least fifteen (15) units of course work in any one of the following or combination thereof: psychology, sociology, administration of justice, criminal justice, social work or other behavioral science.
- Experience working in a Probation Department is preferred.
- Possess a valid California driver's license at time of appointment and maintain.
- 10 days of vacation time in the first 5 years of continuous employment, 15 days in the second 5 years, and 20 days after 10 years.
- 0.0625 hours of sick leave for each paid regularly scheduled work hour, with unlimited accumulation.
- 12 paid holidays annually, plus 2 optional holidays.
