Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Department Manager to lead our team of electrical engineers and technicians. As a key member of our Aviation & Federal Global Practice, you will be responsible for the managerial direction and leadership of our electrical department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Quality Management: Ensure the level of quality of electrical and low-voltage design deliverables meets our high standards.
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, retain, mentor, and provide feedback to direct reports in collaboration with management.
  • Training and Development: Identify training needs for staff and provide opportunities for growth and development.
  • Process Improvement: Look for opportunities to improve processes, monitor quality levels, and find root cause of quality problems.
  • Performance Management: Proactively address staff performance issues and project quality issues in a timely manner.
  • Workload Management: Manage expected workload, prioritize tasks, and ensure the department completes projects/assignments on schedule and on budget.
  • Staff Utilization: Responsible for staff utilization and accountability of staff toward individual billability goals per the business plan.
  • Project Management: Assist in establishing project goals, milestones, and procedures. Help define roles and responsibilities, acquire project resources, coordinate projects throughout the company, and monitor project progress.
  • Technical Advisory: Serve as a technical advisor, providing senior-level input and evaluation on projects.
  • Budgeting: Assist in development and administration of annual budgets.
  • Risk Management: Anticipate and recognize problems. Effectively balance risks and opportunities; think through potential positive and negative outcomes; look for ways to mitigate risks.
  • Performance Reviews: Provide mid-year and year-end performance reviews for staff and coordinate with overall Aviation & Federal Global Practice Operations Manager related to reviews.
  • Time and Attendance: Review and approve timecards to reflect accurate labor hours.
  • PTO Requests: Review and approve PTO requests and coordinate with Project Managers to ensure that project schedules are not adversely impacted.
  • Sales and Marketing: Support sales and marketing efforts, including assignment of staff to proposals, presentations, and related tasks.
  • Regional Office Support: Assist in supporting Regional Office staff development, quality control, and resource coordination.
  • Business Development: Support business development with clients, including prior experience in business development.
  • Billable Time: Billable time expectation is 90%.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
  • Experience: Minimum 7 years related professional experience.
  • Leadership Experience: Previous leadership and/or management experience is preferable.
  • Project Management Skills: Must possess strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.
  • Computer Software: Must be an expert in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Communication Skills: Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Leadership Skills: Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer: Licensed Professional Engineer strongly preferred.
  • Consulting Experience: Prior consulting experience is strongly preferred.
