Nurse Specialist

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Nurse Specialist to join our team at NYU Langone Health. The successful candidate will support our quality and safety programs, providing quality improvement facilitation and support for nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the organization's Quality Safety and Performance Improvement Plan by utilizing and communicating evidence-based practice in the development of quality and performance programs.
- Facilitate the development and dissemination of nursing knowledge and research that supports coordinated, resource-efficient quality outcomes.
- Articulate understanding of nursing process, interdisciplinary collaboration, quality and performance management, patient safety, continuum of care concepts, customer service, and healthy work environments.
- Demonstrate understanding and implications of nurse-sensitive quality and other clinical indicators.
- Demonstrate understanding of nursing and patient care standards as integral to and supportive of professional practice.
- Assist with review and development of interdisciplinary and interdepartmental structure standards, process, and outcome standards in conjunction with other nursing leadership.
- Participate in occurrence reviews, complaint investigations, RCAs, and FMEAs, and assist in the facilitation of corrective action plans with nursing leadership and staff.
- Assist unit-based leadership and partnering for quality teams in developing performance improvement initiatives that reflect their specialty and achieve improved patient outcomes.
- Support the Director of Nursing Quality with coordination of the Departments of Nursing Quality & Patient Safety Council and Nursing Practice Council.
- Coordinate activities to promote compliance with all regulatory requirements and support unit-based leadership by developing tools to monitor outcomes at the unit level.
- Provide support for quality improvement teams, including arranging meetings, providing minutes, managing project timelines, and preparing reports.
- Participate in the development of presentations, reports, and publications, and establish collaborative relationships with nursing staff, leadership, medical staff, and other administrative staff.
- Participate as a member of various Nursing Councils and other hospital committees as appropriate, and lead NYULMC teams in participation of quality collaboratives offered by member organizations such as UHC and GNYHA.
- Function as a respectful member of the healthcare team, providing education to various levels of nursing staff in the use of performance improvement methodologies as applicable to nursing quality, and support evidence-based practice by assisting nursing staff in the development of process standards that are consistent with evidence-based literature, regulatory requirements, and pertinent professional nursing standards.
- Stay informed about current clinical practice, participate in leadership development programs in areas pertinent to expertise and interest, and use sound methodology in analyzing data, evaluating outcomes, and driving excellence.
- Maintain current knowledge of trends and issues pertaining to nursing work environments and the Departments of Nursing strategic plan.
Requirements:
- Registered Professional Nurse in the State of New York.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing; Master's Degree in Nursing or related field required or in progress.
- Minimum of 5 years of recent clinical experience in acute care nursing with demonstrated leadership skills.
- Excellent writing, editing, and graphic skills; excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills; attention to detail; possesses good understanding of performance improvement methodology; self-directed, understands change management, professional practice, project management, and current issues and trends in nursing and healthcare.
- Computer expertise in Microsoft Office applications and expertise in analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data using graphs, tables, etc.
- Certification in specialty area desirable.
- Membership in relevant professional organizations.
- Physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities.
