Parsippany, New Jersey, United States Mental Health Association Full time
Position Overview

The Mental Health Association is on the lookout for dedicated Prevention Specialists to contribute to our innovative initiative, the New Jersey Statewide Student Support Services (NJ4S) Hub, which serves the Morris and Sussex Counties.

The NJ4S Hub program aims to deliver comprehensive support through a centralized 'Hub' that employs effective prevention methodologies to assist every student and their families in the region. This initiative will synchronize its efforts with current state and local services to enhance collaboration and minimize redundancy. The Hub will present a structured array of evidence-based prevention and intervention techniques tailored for districts with significant needs. It will offer universal assistance to all students in Morris/Sussex, alongside more focused support for those in higher-need educational settings.

To qualify for the Prevention Specialist role, candidates must possess:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a field related to Human Services is essential. Candidates lacking the requisite education may compensate with relevant experience, calculated on a year-for-year basis, where thirty (30) semester hours equate to one (1) year of experience.
  • Experience in delivering prevention programs is necessary, with a minimum of three (3) years in a non-profit social service context, focusing on the development or execution of community services, prevention initiatives, or other human service programs.
  • Proficiency in applying evidence-based practice models and related training materials in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy, including familiarity with data entry, electronic medical records, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to engage with new ideas.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.

Under the guidance of the Assistant Program Director, the Supervising Prevention Consultant will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with consultants, educational institutions, and community service organizations to facilitate training sessions, workshops, webinars, and assemblies.
  • Maintain comprehensive program documentation and assist in data collection, reporting, and ongoing quality improvement processes for evaluating services aimed at the target population.
  • Implement evidence-based prevention services and curricula with fidelity for students, faculty, and families.
  • Educate students and school staff on recognizing mental health concerns and addressing risk factors that may affect student well-being.
  • Engage in all relevant training and meetings related to the NJ4S initiative and pursue continuous professional development in prevention science, evaluation, community development, and child and adolescent development.
  • Support the establishment of partnerships with community stakeholders and emergency mental health service providers across various Northern NJ communities.
  • Enhance collaborative relationships with all stakeholders involved.
  • Participate in supervision and staff meetings to foster professional growth and a positive work environment.
  • Work in conjunction with other prevention leaders and agencies within the community.
  • Meet all productivity expectations concerning direct service delivery to individuals served.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the NJ4S Hub Supervising Prevention Consultant.
