Job Summary

The Salt Lake City School District is seeking a reliable and safety-conscious individual to fill the role of Driver-Student Transport. As a key member of our transportation team, you will be responsible for transporting students to and from school and other special excursions in a safe and timely manner.

Responsibilities
  • Drive a van to transport passengers over scheduled routes to and from school, and other special excursions, in a safe and timely manner
  • Assist students and other passengers to provide safe loading and unloading from vehicles, including emergency situations and normal transport
  • Supervise students and other passengers during transit to maintain safety and follow district policy
  • Report observations and incidents involving students to appropriate personnel
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the safe operating condition of the vehicle
  • Assess incidents, complaints, accidents, and potential emergency situations to resolve and recommend a resolution
  • Prepare documents and reports to document activities and convey information
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License and evidence of insurability with an acceptable driving record
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Able to roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to pass the Physical Assessment Standards for Utah School Drivers
  • Speak, read, write, analyze, and follow written and verbal communication in English
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working with children with special needs
  • Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
Work Environment and Physical Demands

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds, might need to drag up to 125 pounds, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.
