Substance Abuse Counselor I

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor I to join our team at the J.W. Hamilton Pre-Release Unit in Bryan, Texas. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing substance abuse counseling and recovery skills training to offenders, helping them achieve a healthy and productive life.
Key Responsibilities- Provide substance abuse counseling and recovery skills training, participating in offender orientation, educational, and individual and process counseling groups in compliance with program standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Interview, screen, and evaluate offenders for potential program participation.
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations using valid measurement tools to assess recovery needs and re-offense risk of DWI offenders.
- Develop and implement individual treatment plans based on offender assessments, review of collateral information, and clinical interviews.
- Maintain accurate offender records and compile data for reports and documentation.
- Provide liaison services to participants of training programs, workshops, and seminars.
- Implement follow-up and aftercare plans for offenders, disseminating information on community resources for placement in follow-up treatment.
- Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent (GED) required.
- Current letter of registration as a Counselor Intern (LCDC-I) from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) or current valid certification as a Certified Criminal Justice Professional Applicant Status (CCJP-A) as approved by the Texas Certification Board of Addiction Professionals.
- Select applicants must obtain the Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) license or the Certified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP) certification within five (5) years from the date of their registration as a Counselor Intern or CCJP-A.
- Valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.
- Must successfully complete Correctional Awareness Training (CAT) and TDCJ-approved annual in-service training requirements and background checks.
