Patient Care Responsibilities:

As a Speech-Language Pathologist, you will independently evaluate patients with known or suspected communication disorders, using both non-standardized and standardized evaluation tools. You will record evaluation findings according to Departmental and Hospital procedures, refer patients to medical and educational services when appropriate, and develop an individual therapy plan for each assigned patient.

You will instruct family members and caregivers in-home therapy programs, consult with health care and educational staff to promote the patients' communication skills, and present and defend evaluation findings, progress, and recommendations to patients, families/significant caregivers, and health care professionals.


Administrative Responsibilities:

You will participate in Departmental or program-based functions, such as staff meetings, Departmental continuing education activities, work group meetings/committees, Quality Improvement projects, development and refinement of clinical protocols, and equipment/supplies maintenance and ordering.


Education and Training:

You will teach within the Department, Hospital, professional community, and non-professional community, providing consultative services outside of the Hospital setting. You will mentor professional observers, students, and clinical fellows, and provide education and instruction to patients, families/significant caregivers, health care professionals, students, and the community.


Qualifications:

You must have a Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology, and be licensed to practice in Pennsylvania. You must also hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.


Skills:

You must have a high level of analytical skill, as well as skill in various assessment procedures pertaining to speech and language skills in the pediatric population. You must also have fundamental research skills, including a general understanding of research methodology, design, and statistics.
