Job Summary

The Behavior Intervention Specialist, Special Services, is a critical role established to provide expert support to teachers and classroom staff of the Special Services Severely Handicapped Program. Under the direct supervision of the school psychologist, this specialist will assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of Behavior Intervention Plans to ensure the best possible outcomes for students with moderate to severe disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teachers and classroom staff to develop and implement Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Provide technical assistance and support to ensure effective plan implementation
  • Monitor student progress and make data-driven decisions to inform plan adjustments
  • Work in various school settings, including special day classes, playgrounds, and general education classrooms

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Two years of experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities in a classroom setting
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent; Associate degree OR 48 semester units from an accredited college/university OR Instructional Aide Exam OR CBEST with a passing score
  • Must possess or obtain First Aid and CPR certificates within 45 days of employment
  • Ability to travel to various locations within Tulare County
  • Skills to speak, read, and write another language and willingness to use this skill in the performance of the job may be required for some assignments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with students with diverse needs and abilities
  • Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies and techniques
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
