Design Manager III Job Description

D'Leon Consulting Engineers is seeking a highly skilled Design Manager III to lead the planning, design, and construction of various LAX airport capital improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a multi-disciplined team of planners, architects, engineers, and other professionals to guide the planning, design, permitting, procurement, construction, and activation of airport capital improvement projects.
  • Coordinate with clients and stakeholders to develop business cases for potential capital projects.
  • Develop and present preliminary design alternatives and comparative analysis to address requests and/or concerns from LAWA leadership and/or project stakeholders.
  • Review planning and design submittals for completeness, accuracy, and conformance to project requirements, and provide meaningful and constructive feedback to the planning and design team.
  • Solicit feedback from internal and external project stakeholders, and guide design teams through competing interests and project constraints to ensure the best possible outcomes.
  • Manage planning and design efforts throughout all stages of a project to ensure that projects fulfill their mission, while remaining on-schedule and on-budget.
  • Facilitate smooth transitions as projects advance from planning through design, procurement, construction, and activation.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with preparing planning documents and preliminary design packages for capital projects.
  • Experience with preparing comprehensive design and construction documents.
  • Experience with alternative delivery methods.
  • Experience with aviation and associated regulatory agencies.
  • Experience with plan-check and permitting.
  • Familiarity with the planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance of airport facilities.

Desired Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in architecture, engineering, and/or related field.
  • Minimum 15+ years of professional experience, preferably on large complex airport capital projects.
  • Licensed architect or engineer is desirable.
  • Optional certifications such as AAAE, CASp, LEED, PMP, etc. are desirable.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office and planning and design software.
