Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiac Sonographer to join our team at Tufts Medical Center. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform cardiac ultrasound examinations using various modalities, including m-mode, 2-D, 3-D, and Doppler techniques.
  • Provide preliminary interpretation of study results to cardiologists and assist in the development of diagnostic impressions.
  • Assist physicians in obtaining transesophageal, intraoperative, and three-dimensional studies, as well as recording data for research projects.
  • Maintain equipment in a clean and orderly condition, adhering to infection control practices and ensuring proper charging and billing procedures.
  • Prepare patients for exams, explain procedures, and obtain clinical information from patient charts.
  • Acquire and export three-dimensional echocardiographic data, and perform off-line computer analysis for detailed assessment of cardiac anatomy and function.
  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance on ultrasonic equipment and instrumentation, maintaining documentation for review.
  • Assist in the technical training of new sonographers and interns, developing and maintaining a teaching file system.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Radiologic Science or related field.
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification within one year of hire.
  • One year of clinical experience in cardiac ultrasound or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Science or related field.
  • Two years of clinical experience in cardiac ultrasound or related field.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, occasional sitting, and walking, with lifting of 30-35 pounds.
  • Pushing, pulling, and moving stretchers and ultrasound machines.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating transducers, ultrasound equipment, and computer keyboard.
  • Hearing and visual acuity sufficient for performing examinations, observing patients, reading monitors, and documents.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology, with ability to evaluate laboratory data, past medical history, and pertinent symptoms to tailor ultrasound examinations.
  • Proficient in small parts, venous, and carotid ultrasounds and procedures requiring ultrasound guidance.
  • Ability to perform exams in Doppler, M-mode, B-scan, and real-time modalities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work independently and as part of a team.
