Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating students with communication disorders to enhance their communication abilities and participation in the school environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct assessments to evaluate students' speech, language, and communication skills within the school setting.
  • Collaborate with the school's multidisciplinary team to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and goals for students with communication disorders.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based speech and language therapy interventions and treatment plans to address students' communication challenges.
  • Provide direct speech and language therapy services to students, both individually and in small groups, within the school setting.
  • Assess and treat a variety of communication disorders, including articulation disorders, language disorders, fluency disorders, and social communication disorders.
  • Provide guidance and support to teachers and other school staff on strategies to promote communication skills and facilitate language development in the classroom.
  • Collaborate with parents and caregivers to provide education and support for enhancing communication skills at home and in the community.
  • Monitor and document student progress, collecting data and maintaining accurate records to track their development and the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Attend and actively participate in IEP meetings, providing input on students' speech and language goals, progress, and recommendations for ongoing support.
  • Advocate for the inclusion and accessibility of students with communication disorders, ensuring that their communication needs are met and that they have equal opportunities for participation and success in the school environment.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the state.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) is preferred.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents in a school or pediatric setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of speech and language development, communication disorders, and evidence-based intervention strategies in the school-aged population.
  • Familiarity with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the IEP process.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and other school staff.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a school environment.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed about advancements in the field of speech-language pathology in the school setting.
