About the Unit:
- The Medical-Surgical Overflow Observation unit plays a crucial role in managing patients transitioning from emergency and step-down care, ensuring comprehensive treatment for a variety of medical and surgical issues.
Unit Culture:
- Our unit promotes a strong team-oriented culture, where every staff member is appreciated and supported.
- We emphasize transparent communication and a familial atmosphere, accommodating personal needs and unexpected circumstances.
Nursing Support and Staffing:
- Daytime nurse-to-patient ratio typically stands at 1:5 or 1:6, supplemented by a dedicated charge nurse.
- Nighttime nurse-to-patient ratio maintains a range of 1:5 to 1:6, ensuring focused attention on each patient's requirements.
- Clinical Nurse Coordinators are available for guidance and support, maintaining a manageable patient load to enhance unit efficiency.
- Our team is further supported by Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to ensure patient comfort and safety.

Job Summary and Qualifications- Provides leadership that facilitates the delivery of professional nursing care, ensuring patient comfort and wellbeing.
- Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide, delegate, supervise, and document care and education for patients and their families.
- Implements medically prescribed interventions.
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing or enrollment in a BSN or advanced degree program with completion within five years of hire into the RN position.
- Preferred Education: Master’s degree in Nursing.
- Licensure/Certifications: Current registered nurse licensure with the North Carolina Board of Nursing. eNLC (Enhanced Nurse License Compact) license may apply.
- Preferred Certifications: National Certification in the area of specialty.
- Experience: Minimum of one year of nursing experience.
