Krewe of Kids Pediatrics is an outpatient pediatric clinic in the New Orleans area servicing patients ages birth to 21 years of age.
The estimated salary for this position is $45,000 - $55,000 per year.
Job Description:We are seeking a bright Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with a great attitude, outgoing personality, and excellent customer service skills to assist in both clinical and administrative areas. Responsibilities include assisting the physician with patient care, handling front desk tasks, and performing screenings per provider guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient care responsibilities: receives patient from the waiting room and performs intake of patient (i.e. vital signs, chief complaint, medical history, etc.) and charts information appropriately; Performing screenings per provider guidelines; Answering patient/parent calls and providing pertinent information; Communicating instructions to patients/parents.
- Administrative/organizational responsibilities: front desk reception (i.e. answering phones and scheduling appointments, greeting patients, completion of registration forms, giving instructions at patient check in, sending or receiving medical records, faxing referrals, verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics); Uses communication skills with appropriate medical terminology; Follows appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct; Respects/promotes patient rights; Shares problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor.
- Clinical responsibilities: measures and records vital signs; Records pertinent intake information (i.e. chief complaint, history, etc.); Prepares patients for examinations; Performs routine screening tests and basic lab tests; Assists physician with exams; Prepares and administers medications as per physician authorization; Changes dressings and/or applies bandages; Administers injections; Performs accurate, legal and ethical documentation at all times.
- Environmental responsibilities: Cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; Sorting and storing supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduation from an accredited medical vocational institution or a community college course in medical assisting strongly preferred
- Current certification as a Clinical Medical Assistant
- At least one-year work experience as a Clinical Medical Assistant in an ambulatory outpatient setting, Pediatric experience preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
