As a Patient Care Technician, you will deliver essential, quality-focused patient care in a clinical environment under the daily guidance and supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Your role will align with established standards of practice and state regulations, ensuring that patients and their families receive holistic treatment with dignity and respect.
- Support the RN in the daily care of patients, which includes assisting with bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, mobility orders, and ambulation, utilizing therapeutic assistive devices as necessary.
- Accurately measure and document vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration, as well as intake and output, daily weights, and other patient data as requested. Ensure precise documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Engage in purposeful rounding under the RN's direction, promptly communicating any observations, concerns, or needs of the patient and family. Document findings appropriately.
- Assist in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes under RN supervision, which includes room preparation, patient orientation, linen management, and safeguarding patient belongings. Ensure the patient call light is always accessible and respond to call lights promptly.
- Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens, performing point-of-care testing as required, while adhering to proper specimen labeling and identification protocols. Maintain competency as necessary.
- Carry out various errands as directed, including the pick-up and delivery of trays, charts, specimens, and reports. Manage and order supplies for the nursing area and maintain cleanliness of equipment and workspaces.
- Perform patient positioning and transportation tasks that involve lifting and pushing/pulling, utilizing appropriate techniques and assistive devices. Support nutritional needs under RN guidance, including diet review, tray setup/removal, and proper positioning.
- Execute tasks related to maintaining skin integrity, including repositioning and skin care. Ensure that special patient supplies and appliances, such as TED hose and sequential compression devices, are provided and maintained.
- Under RN direction and as per site/unit requirements, you may be tasked with removing IVs, providing post-mortem care, and conducting bladder scans.
- Adhere to infection prevention policies and procedures by demonstrating hand hygiene, understanding sterile and aseptic techniques, properly disposing of contaminated materials, and wearing appropriate attire when interacting with patients in isolation.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) is required within 45 days, and
- Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry in which the team member practices.
- Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), or
- High School Graduate.
- Basic computer skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Team members will maintain annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications (e.g., DNV, CARF, or others).
