POSITION HOURS AND PAY:
This role encompasses 6.75 hours daily for a total of 131 days each year.
Alternatively, it can be structured as 6.5 hours per day for 5 days annually.
For the initial year, it involves 7 hours per day for 4 days, followed by 2 days each subsequent year until certification is achieved.

Required Training:
The selected candidate must complete Right Response Training within 3-5 months of hire. Annual renewal of Right Response certification is mandatory prior to expiration.
*Completion of the Fundamental Course of Studies (FCS) and the General Paraeducator Certificate is required as per state regulations. The Paraeducator Certificate Program is subject to state funding availability.
IMPORTANT: To be eligible for an interview for this instructional paraeducator role, candidates must meet the following federal minimum employment criteria:
- Must be at least 18 years old;
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent; and one of the following:
- Successful completion of the ETS Para Pro test or Pearson Paraprofessional assessment
- Associate degree or higher
- Completion of 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an accredited higher education institution
- Completion of a registered apprenticeship program from the Washington State Dept. of Labor & Industries
- Successful completion of The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program
TB Testing:
Proof of a passing TB (tuberculosis) test is required prior to official hire.
MMR Vaccine: Required
General Summary:
This position entails supporting certified staff in various activities for preschool special education students, including providing individualized instruction and supervising student behavior and activities as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Depending on the specific assignment, the Paraeducator - Preschool Special Education may perform a combination of the following tasks:
1. Offer instruction and assistance to special needs preschool students aged 3 to 5 in a partially self-contained/partially integrated setting. Work with students individually or in small groups across diverse learning activities to enhance understanding of presented materials. Provide encouragement and support to achieve educational objectives defined by certified staff.
2. Communicate with instructors and program specialists regarding individual student progress; adapt methods to cater to a wide range of student needs. Assist professional staff in executing a targeted program.
3. Maintain student focus on specific tasks. Supervise student behavior in various settings, including classrooms, playgrounds, and during field trips. Correct behaviors and uphold discipline according to established policies. Instruct students on behavioral rules and codes for safety and social development.
4. Assist students in mastering interpersonal and personal skills.
5. Establish and maintain effective communication with students, staff, and parents regarding student progress and safety. Collaborate with parent and student volunteers in program activities.
6. Provide assistance to physically handicapped students, including lifting and positioning or aiding with personal hygiene.
7. Ensure the physical safety and well-being of students; assist with entering and exiting buses, using toilets, and other personal conduct. Monitor for first aid needs and refer for treatment as necessary; track and dispense authorized medication as required.
8. Prepare and set up snacks and lunches for children; manage specialized food and adaptive equipment. Maintain inventory of food service supplies and teach children basic food preparation skills. Clean up after meals, ensuring hygiene and safety.
9. Assist students with self-help skills, teaching them to dress, eat properly, and maintain personal hygiene.
10. Support students in physical movement and exercise, following specific regimens developed by therapists.
11. May accompany instructors during home visits to students, assisting in documentation and observations.
12. Maintain cleanliness and order of the classroom and equipment, ensuring proper assembly and storage of playground items.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
13. Alert qualified district staff to student issues.
14. Prepare, duplicate, collate, and distribute materials; operate various office equipment.
15. Assist instructors in maintaining logs and records for student progress assessment. May participate in district committees or departmental teams. Model appropriate behavior, including confidentiality in line with district ethical guidelines.
16. Perform related duties consistent with the role.
17. Maintain logs of student transportation information as required.
18. Participate in meetings and training sessions.
19. May have flexible hours to engage in family or community activities related to program objectives.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to the Director for Special Services and receives guidance from assigned certified staff.
MENTAL DEMANDS:
This role may involve frequent interruptions and requires adaptability to changing tasks and priorities, as well as the ability to manage a wide range of student behaviors and disabilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Potential exposure to infectious diseases, student noise levels, and the need to lift students weighing up to fifty (50) pounds. Responsibilities may include outdoor supervision in various weather conditions and attending to students' personal hygiene needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and experience necessary to fulfill the assignment, with a preference for experience working with preschool and special needs students.
Licenses/Special Requirements:
Requires fingerprinting and background checks to ensure no convictions involving harm to minors. Must complete training in adherence to the district's infection control plan. Hepatitis-B immunization is available. First-aid/CPR certification is required. Completion of Right Response Training within 3-5 months of hire is necessary, with annual renewal required.
