Under the direction of a Radiologist, this Interventional Radiology Technologist specializes in the performance of procedures of an invasive nature to aid in the evaluation of pathological entities as prescribed by a physician.
Key Responsibilities- Explain examination procedures to patients and prepare them for the examination, obtaining additional information about their medical history as necessary.
- Prepare procedure rooms and regularly replenish stock, including linen and related supplies.
- Prepare prescribed contrast media, medications, and IV solutions for administration to patients.
- Review clinical data on requisitions, analyze anatomical structures, and set up equipment to assist Radiologists in performing complex diagnostic invasive procedures.
- Prepare and set up sterile equipment, physiological monitors, pressure injectors, and imaging equipment required for procedures, ensuring adequate supplies are on hand and properly stored.
- Assess patient conditions before, during, and after procedures, working as part of a team to ensure patient safety.
- Manually control equipment to obtain proper diagnostic information for the area of the body being studied.
- May assist with training new personnel and students assigned to the division.
- Perform all imaging procedures, demonstrating principles of radiation protection, including shielding patients, selecting appropriate equipment settings to reduce dose, and using other ALARA techniques.
- Resolve image exceptions and ensure high-quality image delivery into PACS, including viewing images into PACS and confirming image/series counts.
- Complete study indexing, including study begin, study end, and completion of the study in the Radiology Information System.
- Review and confirm clinical protocols with Radiologists before performing studies.
- Demonstrate Team Member Standards of Excellence, including AIDET, open communication, responding in a timely manner, displaying a positive attitude, fostering innovation, respecting diversity, etc.
- Perform Quality Assurance procedures as appropriate.
- Document all necessary information in the medical record and Radiology Information System to support clinical and billing functions.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
- Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) with the advanced registry in Cardiac-Interventional Radiography (CI), Vascular-Interventional Radiography (VI), or Cardiovascular-Interventional Radiography (CV) (or registry eligible). If registry eligible, registry must be obtained within 12 months of date of hire.
- Maintain required hours of continued medical education.
- Maintain a Healthcare Provider certification (BCLS).
