Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist to join our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As a key member of our imaging department, you will be responsible for performing routine to moderately complex radiographic examination procedures using diagnostic x-ray equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform computed tomography of the head, neck, spine, chest, and body, with and without the use of contrast materials.
  • Schedule exams to optimize scanner times while maintaining flexibility for emergency cases.
  • Confers with radiologists to determine requirements for non-standard exams.
  • Determines technical factors, positioning, number, and thickness of scans to produce and satisfy requirements of CT scanning.
  • Performs CT angiography, including run-offs and pulmonary embolus studies, using power injectors and reconstruction of images post-image acquisition.
  • Performs CT biopsies utilizing surgical sterile techniques.
  • Prepares contrast materials used in CT.
  • Performs quality control on the CT scanner as required.
  • Records contrast warmer temperature daily.
  • Checks crash cart at the beginning of the shift.
  • Performs reconstructions of CT studies when requested or when part of a standard procedure.
  • Maintains records and files of exams performed on patients.
  • Properly identifies patient images.
  • Responsible for explaining exams to competent patients, ensuring they understand what is to be done and any potential adverse reactions.
  • Responsible for stocking and inventory of all CT supplies and related materials.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions in a timely manner to the supervisor and enters an electronic work order to Biomedical Engineering for repair.
  • Performs irregular hour emergency scans on-call, when necessary.
Requirements
  • United States Citizenship.
  • English Proficiency.
  • Certification in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R).
  • Advanced ARRT certification for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently.
  • Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).
  • At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-8, directly related to the position being filled, that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and maintain attention to detail. The selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment physical examination and participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program.

This is an open continuous announcement and may be posted up to September 30, 2024. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be March 22, 2024, with subsequent cut-off dates on the 1st and 15th of each month.
