Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Veterinary Care Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our animal care unit, you will provide top-notch veterinary care to research animals in assigned facilities. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the health and well-being of these animals, which is critical to advancing medical research.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive veterinary care to research animals, including observation, diagnosis, treatment, and maintenance of health records.
  • Collaborate with researchers to develop protocols, select animal models, and optimize care practices.
  • Offer anesthesia and surgical support, as well as postoperative care for clinical and research procedures.
  • Contribute to IACUC reviews and facility inspections, policy development, and other related activities.
  • Maintain compliance with animal care regulations and standards.
  • BUILD STRONG RELATIONSHIPS WITH DEPARTMENTAL PERSONNEL, RESEARCH STAFF, AND INSTITUTIONAL ADMINISTRATORS.
  • Be prepared to work evenings, weekends, and respond promptly to emergencies.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Nearly Continuously: Standard vivarium environment; standard laboratory environment; safety shoes required.
  • Seldom: Occasionally handle/works with biohazards or risks for potential job-related injury.

Minimum Qualifications

  • DVM/VMD degree and U.S. license to practice veterinary medicine; ability to obtain licensure in Utah and DEA registration; completion of a formal postdoctoral Laboratory Animal Medicine residency program.
  • Four years' related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
  • DACLAM certification.

Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 per year.
