Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls Engineer II to join our team at Clayco in Birmingham, AL. The successful candidate will have a strong background in instrumentation engineering and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Key Responsibilities
  • Support project teams to develop and implement effective process flow diagrams and P&ID.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure all stakeholders are informed.
  • Create instrument specifications and coordinate with process, mechanical, and piping designs.
  • Select and size process instrumentation while maintaining quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain instrument and IO lists.
  • Review technical bids from suppliers for instrumentation and controls scope.
  • Verify 3D piping models for proper installation and accessibility.
  • Review vendor drawings and packaged systems.
  • Design and produce instrument location plans and details.
  • Perform quality reviews of instrumentation deliverables.
  • Produce construction scope of work documentation.
  • Review contractor RFIs and submittals.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Chemical Engineering; completion of the fundamentals of engineering (FE) exam is a plus.
  • Minimum 5+ years of instrumentation engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with certification and code requirements, including Electrical Codes & Standards; IEC, NEC, UL for components certification; ISA, ASME, ANSI.
  • Knowledge of hazardous area design principles.
  • Proficient in using computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD.

  • Estimated annual salary: $120,000 - $160,000 based on qualifications, skills, training, experience, and location.
