Responsibilities
  • Assist in the diagnosis and therapeutic management of patients under the supervision of a physician in the inpatient pediatric unit.
  • Organize and present patient data to the supervising physician, including recommendations for diagnostic and therapeutic regimens.
  • Issue diagnostic and therapeutic orders, including orders for approved drugs, following applicable guidelines.
  • Provide instructions and guidance regarding healthcare and medical therapy to patients, family members, and significant others.
  • Perform complete, detailed, and accurate health histories and reviews of patient records.
  • Order appropriate laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies.
  • Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments, and record pertinent data in the electronic health record.
  • Formulate medical and nursing diagnoses and institute appropriate therapies or referrals to healthcare facilities, agencies, physicians, or other resources in the community.
  • Plan and initiate a therapeutic regimen, including ordering drugs, medical devices, and nutrition and supportive services.
  • Interpret and analyze patient data to determine patient management and treatment.
  • Administer injections and dispense medications.
  • Create and edit documents within Cerner.
  • Prepare reports as needed.
  • Serve on various committees and Quality Improvement teams.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of an approved nurse practitioner training program.
  • Certification as a nurse practitioner.
  • Licensure with the state of Alabama as a nurse practitioner and registered nurse.
