Job Summary

The Mental Health Professional - Crisis Response will accompany law enforcement officers in responding to police dispatches related to mental health crises. This role requires a strong understanding of crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques, as well as the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accompany CIT trained police officers in assigned jurisdiction to police dispatches related to mental health crises
  • Complete assessments for individuals in crisis and develop appropriate services, including referrals to voluntary inpatient settings and applications for involuntary emergency examination and treatment
  • Provide linkages to community supports, supportive counseling, and substance abuse services
  • Advocate for individuals served with outside agencies, including Social Security, Department of Public Welfare, and county and state government representatives
  • Maintain communication with physician, psychiatrist, pharmacist, and other ancillary service providers
  • Intervene in crisis situations using evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches
  • Attend scheduled staff team meetings and participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team
  • Maintain complete and accurate clinical records
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a human service field, including social work, psychology, counseling, or rehabilitation education
  • Five years of mental health experience, or a master's degree in a human service field with three years of mental health experience, or a bachelor's degree in nursing with three years of mental health experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple priorities
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform CPR and crisis intervention using agency-trained protocols
  • Excellent customer interaction, collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills
