As an Allergy Technician at Piedmont Ear Nose and Throat Associates, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients with allergies. Your responsibilities will include performing allergy testing, administering allergy injections, and supporting efficient department operations by managing inventory and maintaining medical records.
Key Responsibilities:- Identify patient allergies by testing patients according to practice protocols and physician's preferred testing method, documenting results in patient's medical record.
- Support allergy treatment plans by preparing allergy serums, mixing vials of antigens, and administering allergy therapies, documenting reactions and calling in prescriptions as needed.
- Maintain adequate levels of antigens, serums, supplies, and forms by establishing par levels, performing regular inventory, and ordering as needed.
- Minimize risk of adverse reaction/allergic crises by confirming patient identities, safely disposing of expired medication, and paying close attention to details when preparing allergy medication.
- Minimize risk of infection and cross-contamination by following sterile procedure guidelines, adhering to bloodborne pathogen standards, and using personal protective equipment.
- Prepare patients for testing/injection by putting them at ease, obtaining medical history, and recording vital signs.
- Ensure completeness and integrity of department medical records and support charge capture/billing objectives by selecting appropriate CPT and ICD-9 codes and adhering to practice protocols for documenting information.
- Support continuity of care by taking and returning calls from allergy patients, following scripted questions, and documenting conversations in detail.
- Support efficient office operation by ensuring exam rooms are clean and ready for patients, adhering to appointment schedule, and using open slots for other essential functions.
- Maintain licensure and/or certification by obtaining CMEs and training as required, keeping up membership in professional associations, and participating in staff meetings and in-services.
- High school diploma or equivalent, certification as a Medical Assistant required within 6 months of employment.
- Experience not required, but one year of healthcare experience in a group practice setting is preferred.
