Laboratory Technician, Entry-Level Position

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Laboratory Technician to join our team at SGS. As a Junior Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in performing routine laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine laboratory testing, following relevant company's Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and methods.
  • Prepare a representative subsample from client sample that meets specific requirements using defined methods.
  • Weigh and digest samples for analysis, using relevant equipment.
  • May complete and maintain laboratory reports.
  • Receive, sort, and log client samples into the database, and prepare samples' labels.
  • Archive, return, or dispose of client samples as per established procedure.
  • Prepare monthly composites.
  • May perform daily, weekly, and monthly Quality Assurance/Quality Control checks on equipment.
  • Demonstrate good and safe work habits and enforce a clean working environment.
  • Perform general upkeep and housekeeping of the laboratory.
  • Ensure all equipment and containers are organized and cleaned before and after use.
  • Ensure all personal protective equipment (PPE) relevant for tasks is worn as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all required local and federal safety processes and procedures.
  • May also have preparation or field responsibilities, as required by business needs.
  • Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent (Required)
  • No experience required, unless required by state law
  • Water lab only: Where required by state law, Post-secondary degree in science, or minimum 1 year supervised water testing experience. (Required)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid and current Driver's license may be required if the role requires driving a company vehicle.
  • Must obtain 24-hour surface Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) certificate, training is available through SGS.
