POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsibilities:
The Radiologic Imaging Specialist is accountable for conducting diagnostic imaging procedures on patients, including x-rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and computed tomography (CT) scans.

This role ensures that the requirements of both patients and healthcare providers are met during these examinations and associated tasks.

The specialist actively engages in Quality Improvement and Safety initiatives to fulfill the objectives of the Radiology Department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

Assess patient service needs by establishing a personal connection with patients and relevant stakeholders
Ensure the functionality of radiology equipment by performing preventive maintenance; adhering to manufacturer guidelines; troubleshooting issues; coordinating repairs; managing equipment inventories; and evaluating new technologies
Maintain an adequate inventory of radiology supplies by monitoring stock levels; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; and confirming receipt of supplies
Adhere to federal, state, and local regulations and professional standards by reviewing current and upcoming legislation; ensuring compliance; and advising management on necessary actions
Enhance professional and technical expertise by participating in educational workshops; reviewing industry publications; building professional networks; and engaging in relevant organizations
Ensure a safe and clean working environment by following established procedures, rules, and regulations
Facilitate patient cooperation by alleviating anxieties; providing clear explanations of procedures; and addressing inquiries
Prepare patients for imaging procedures by positioning them appropriately; adjusting immobilization devices; maneuvering equipment into position; and calibrating equipment settings for optimal exposure
Minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff by employing radiation safety techniques, utilizing beam-restrictive devices, and applying knowledge of exposure factors
Safeguard patients and staff by adhering to infection control protocols; following emergency procedures for adverse reactions; and being prepared to administer first aid
Maintain the quality and production of radiographs by following established standards; developing images; assessing results; and making necessary adjustments
Document patient care activities by recording information in patient and departmental records
Contribute to team objectives by achieving related results as required

Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned in an efficient, effective, and cost-conscious manner, in compliance with all organizational policies and regulations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:

Requirements:

A solid understanding of diagnostic radiography principles and the operation of radiographic equipment, typically acquired through two (2) years of accredited training.

Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and the State Board of Health.
Proficiency in basic clerical skills (filing, typing, computer literacy, telephone etiquette, scheduling, etc.)
Current CPR certification is required.
Ongoing certification maintenance through Continuing Education and AART standards is expected.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to ionizing radiation.
High-stress, fast-paced environment.
Prolonged periods of standing.
Cold working conditions are present 100% of the time.
Ability to lift heavy patients/objects (40 pounds or more).
Potential exposure to blood/blood products and infectious diseases.
Interaction with electrical equipment.
