Position Overview

Role Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Clinic Float Pool is accountable for delivering nursing care within the established scope of practice. This role involves assisting healthcare providers in delivering quality patient care in various clinic settings. The LPN may oversee unlicensed personnel and may operate independently in the clinic environment. Additional responsibilities include administrative tasks related to patient records and ensuring continuity of care typical in a medical practice.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Prepare the clinic for daily operations and ensure readiness.
  2. Maintain cleanliness and organization of patient examination rooms and laboratory areas.
  3. Conduct quality assurance checks on laboratory equipment.
  4. Perform laboratory specimen collection, including venipuncture, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  5. Execute CLIA-waived laboratory procedures.
  6. Input orders into the Meditech system.
  7. Measure and document patient vital signs, assisting with assessments and patient education within the LPN's scope.
  8. Prepare patients for examinations by healthcare practitioners.
  9. Document patients' presenting issues, current medications, and allergies.
  10. Support practitioners during patient examinations or procedures as required.
  11. Assemble procedure trays as necessary.
  12. Conduct EKG recordings as ordered.
  13. Administer medications, both oral and injectable, as prescribed by the practitioner, adhering to LPN practice standards.
  14. Clean and restock examination rooms between patient visits.
  15. Assist with patient communications, including prescription refills and scheduling referrals.
  16. Participate in inventory management and ordering of clinic supplies.
  17. Adhere to documentation standards and policies.
  18. Respond appropriately to patients in emergency or distressing situations.
  19. Foster positive working relationships within the department and across the organization.
  20. Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to perform under pressure.
  21. Safely operate and manage medical equipment.

Required Competencies

Qualifications

Mandatory Education and Experience

  1. Completion of an accredited LPN program.
  2. Current LPN licensure in Louisiana.
  3. Current Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  4. Minimum of one year of experience in a medical practice.
  5. Demonstrated skills in providing excellent patient experiences.
  6. Basic proficiency in computer usage.
  7. Understanding of patient confidentiality protocols.
  8. Ability to adapt to diverse clinical environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience with clinical documentation systems.
