Job Title: Adjunct Professor of English as a Second Language

We are seeking a highly qualified Adjunct Professor of English as a Second Language to join our team at Mt. San Antonio College. As an Adjunct Professor, you will be responsible for teaching credit ESL reading, writing, speaking, and/or elective courses from basic to advanced levels in accordance with assigned course outlines.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach credit ESL reading, writing, speaking, and/or elective courses from basic to advanced levels in accordance with assigned course outlines
  • Design curriculum around thematic units curated from multimedia sources
  • Participate in curriculum development, student learning outcome development, and assessments
  • Collaborate effectively with other faculty, staff, and administrators to plan, develop, and execute related program goals
  • Utilize culturally responsive pedagogy to instruct and assist in growth and success of students with a sensitivity to instructional needs
  • Maintain a scheduled office hour
  • Utilize learning management systems (i.e. Canvas) and instructional technologies for delivery of course content
  • Perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities and College, division, and department policies
Requirements:
  • A Master's degree in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or education with a TESL emphasis
  • OR a Bachelor's degree in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with TESL certificate AND a master's in linguistics, applied linguistics, English composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speech, or any foreign language
  • OR the equivalent (must request an equivalency review in the application)
  • Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests
  • Personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment
  • Awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Communicate effectively to students orally and in writing
  • Usage of acceleration principles and reading apprenticeship philosophies
  • A teaching style that integrates technology to maximize language acquisition
  • Evidence of participating in department and/or division meetings, program advisory board, evaluations, and college committees, as related to a credit ESL teaching assignment
  • Evidence of experience teaching student-centered, in-person and online credit ESL courses at varying levels and in a variety of courses
