Job Description

As a Clinical Engineering Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the proper functioning of medical equipment at the University of Maryland Medical System. Under regular supervision, you will perform maintenance tasks according to manufacturers' procedures and departmental guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Maintenance and Repair: Complete assigned maintenance workload in a timely manner, accurately documenting all maintenance work.
  2. Technical Knowledge: Demonstrate technical knowledge of principles of operation and clinical aspects of use of medical equipment.
  3. Inspection and Verification: Responsible for incoming inspection documentation and performance verification of clinical instrumentation as necessary.
  4. Corrective Maintenance: Perform needed corrective maintenance and calibration of clinical equipment as required, responding to requests for service from equipment users.
  5. Documentation and Communication: Responsible for timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all maintenance activities, communicating effectively with hospital staff and patients.
  6. Warranty and Contracted Services: Oversee warranty repairs and contracted services by outside service representatives, requesting service parts as needed.
  7. On-Call Responsibilities: Be available on a rotating or permanent basis to handle emergency repairs during off-hours, responding to calls within 30 minutes.
  8. Inventory and Database Management: Inventory, inspect, and identify equipment to be included in the database, completing necessary forms properly and neatly.
Qualifications:
  1. Education and Experience: Associate's degree or equivalent in electronics technology or biomedical engineering, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in repair and maintenance of electronic instrumentation.
  2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Highly effective verbal and written communication skills, knowledge of applicable trade areas, and computer skills including Microsoft Office programs.
