Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Student Success Advisor to join our team at St. Louis Community College. As a Student Success Advisor, you will play a critical role in supporting students from entry to completion, providing comprehensive and proactive advising, educational guidance, career and transfer planning services, and assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic advising and guidance to students, including interpreting assessments, clarifying career and transfer goals, and providing referrals to resources.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance student experience and contribute to improved retention, persistence, and graduation rates.
  • Stay up-to-date with institutional and national data regarding student success advisors' roles in student success.
  • Assist students in clarifying transfer plans and determining courses of action to transfer.
  • Educate students on the enrollment process, interpretation of assessment test scores, standards of academic progress, and utilization of technology tools.
  • Assist in the new student orientation process.
  • Educate students on their academic standing and provide advice on building a plan towards good academic standing.
  • Interpret career assessments to assist students with career exploration and education planning.
  • Refer and accept referrals of students for services as needed.
  • Review degree evaluations, transfer credits, college placement test results, and other available information to assist students in creating an education plan that fulfills their selected program's requirements.
  • Understand and stay abreast of changing institutional policies and college operating procedures.
  • Adopt the appreciative advising approach to optimize interactions and work with students.
  • Assist students in the development of an educational plan, including clarifying educational and career goals, choosing a program of study, and assisting the student through this decision-making process.
  • Develop and update academic advising skills and knowledge through involvement in both internal and external professional development and training opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain connections with students, providing proactive advising and case management for students identified on caseload.
  • Plan and conduct successful advising interactions, accurately disseminating information in a clear and concise manner, maintaining detailed and accurate records, and providing appropriate referrals based on the individual needs of the student.
  • Provide students with strategies related to academic progress and work/life/study balance.
  • Provide various modes of advising delivery in response to student needs, enrollment trends, and changing campus environments.
  • Process and/or assist in the workflows associated with substitution/waiver requests, add/drop/withdrawal, graduation, and change of major.
  • Provide comprehensive academic, career, and transfer planning services for students from entry to completion.
  • Provide students with career exploration services, including career assessment, results interpretation, and assistance in career choice and program selection.
  • May assist in the development of resume and cover letter writing, interview, job search, and soft skills.
  • Conduct group and/or classroom presentations for academic, career, and transfer planning.
  • May participate with advising leaders on projects and tasks.
  • Maintain an effective informational and collaborative relationship with other college and academic departments.
  • Verify applicable courses as they relate to federal financial aid funding and/or veteran's benefits.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of relevant full-time experience.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting and an understanding and passion for community college students.
  • Experience working with case management and technology.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.
