Position Overview
I. General Summary
This position represents the foundational role for nurses with over 12 months of experience. The Registered Nurse provides and coordinates comprehensive care to patients within a specialized clinical environment, functioning as an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team. The nurse utilizes established care delivery models and professional practice standards as a framework for delivering high-quality nursing care. This role includes accountability to patients, families, and team members, as well as adherence to the organization's Service Standards and Nursing Mission, Vision, and Values.
II. Key Responsibilities
The following outlines the primary responsibilities associated with this role. This is not an exhaustive list of all duties performed by personnel in this classification.
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates proficiency in caring for the specific patient population; independently practices with a strong foundation of clinical knowledge and skills.
- Acts as a clinical resource for colleagues.
- Integrates evidence-based practices into patient care.
- Effectively fulfills roles specific to the unit, such as emergency response or triage.
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to develop and coordinate patient care, advocating for the needs of patients and families.
- Models practices that align with unit operations to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
- Engages in continuous professional growth and development.
- Maintains competencies required for the patient care setting, focusing on advancing personal professional skills.
- Participates in unit-based staff development initiatives.
- Serves as a preceptor and mentor for new nurses and students.
- Contributes to the development and evaluation of orientation and educational programs.
- Supports the skill development of nursing support personnel.
- Completes continuing education requirements annually as per facility standards.
- Understands and contributes to unit-based outcomes linked to national quality measures and nursing-sensitive indicators.
- Participates in research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Delivers high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care with a focus on exceeding service expectations.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and holds others accountable; participates in quality assurance activities as needed.
- Demonstrates the ability to assume charge nurse responsibilities.
- Participates in team-building activities within the unit.
- Contributes to regular staff meetings and briefings.
- Engages in the governance structure of the unit and nursing division.
- Involves in recruitment and retention efforts at the unit level.
- Provides constructive feedback in peer review processes as requested.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland or eligibility to practice under Compact state agreements.
- Minimum of 12 months of nursing experience with a solid foundation of clinical knowledge and skills.
- Current AHA BLS certification is required.
- Must meet all unit-specific certification requirements.
