Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at Comprehensive Health Services. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in providing medical services at the scope and level of a Laboratory Technician to preserve the health of employees and client personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides medical services at the scope and level of a Laboratory Technician to preserve the health of employees and client personnel.
  • Identifies nosocomial infections and differentiates them from community-acquired infections.
  • Performs proper patient identification procedures.
  • Performs phlebotomy, including pediatric phlebotomy and testing, and collects and handles blood specimens.
  • Performs blunt abdominal trauma testing, urine drug screening, pulmonary function tests, hearing tests, and working with audiograms, and vision and color testing.
  • Performs routine laboratory procedures, including quality control and accurately enters results.
  • Follows all laboratory protocols and federal lab laws.
  • Sets up and operates lab equipment and performs maintenance in preparation for specimen testing or processing.
  • Performs duties in a safe manner and follows the corporate safety policy.
  • Records and maintains patient information in accordance with standard protocols and the Privacy Act.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Responds to inquiries of varying complexity using knowledge and an understanding of established policies, procedures, and practices for safeguarding information (HIPAA, PHI, PII).
  • Maintains professionalism, ethical standards, discretion, candor, privacy, and confidentiality of all company proprietary information, meetings, communication, and documents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with contract requirements.
Qualifications
  • Graduated from an accredited school for Laboratory Technician.
  • Skilled at obtaining body fluids, tissues, and other specimens.
  • Experience performing accurate laboratory testing and recognizes the importance of proper test selection and causes of discrepant results.
  • Knowledge of testing principles related to routine testing.
  • Knowledge of specimen handling, collection techniques, and general lab workflow.
  • Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized, and have excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computer and common office equipment, as well as with MS Office products required.
  • Must be able to perform duties in a stressful and high-paced environment without physical limitations.
  • Ability to adapt to sudden changes and flexibility in work requirements to include potential shift changes based on operational needs and/or command priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree in Laboratory Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or related science.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Chain of custody urine drug screening certification.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Due to varied current global health climate, additional personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines may apply.
  • The position will require walking, standing, or sitting for periods of up to or beyond 10 to 12 hours each day.
  • Under urgent or emergency situations, the incumbent may need to run, sprint, or run up or down stairs.
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • May require bending, stooping, and lifting as required for patient care and transport.
