GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the guidance and oversight of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Nurse Assistant is responsible for performing designated patient care tasks aimed at ensuring the safety and comfort of patients. This role involves contributing insights to aid the RN in the planning and execution of patient care strategies. The Nurse Assistant is expected to respond to urgent situations in accordance with established protocols and to engage in ongoing professional development. Adherence to the Henry Ford Health System Team Member Standards of Excellence is essential in all interactions.
UNIT DESCRIPTION:
This unit comprises 40 beds and specializes in the care of neuro patients. The patient demographic includes individuals experiencing stroke or stroke-like symptoms, seizures, brain hemorrhages, and other neurological conditions. Additionally, a limited number of cardiac patients are treated, including those on non-titrated cardiac drips, along with any other patients requiring placement. All Registered Nurses in this unit are certified in ACLS and NIH.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
- CNA certification preferred
- Completion of a Nurse Assistant training program (titles for similar programs may vary; e.g., Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Patient Assistant Technician (PAT), which fulfill the same role)
- Alternatively, candidates may be currently enrolled in a nursing program and have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Nursing course
- Foreign-trained and licensed RNs relocating to the United States without a Michigan RN license are also eligible
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program, with or without prior experience
- At least one year of relevant experience in a Nurse Assistant, PCT, PAT, or similar position
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
- Completion of BLS Heart Saver Certification during orientation
