Job Description

Position Overview:

The Kitchen Sanitation Specialist is responsible for maintaining the overall hygiene of the culinary environment, which includes the thorough cleaning of dishware, kitchen appliances, and various utensils in compliance with state and federal guidelines as well as the operational standards set by Oaks Senior Living. This role ensures that dining areas are sanitized and assists in the organization, rotation, and storage of kitchen supplies.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Thoroughly cleans and inspects all dishes and glassware.
  2. Organizes and stores clean utensils and dishware in designated areas.
  3. Maintains the dishwashing equipment and the dish area in a clean and functional state.
  4. Reports any equipment malfunctions or issues to the Food Service Director promptly.
  5. Cleans the kitchen and waitstaff areas, including sweeping and mopping floors and cleaning the stove filter.
  6. Delivers ice to dining areas and may assist waitstaff with serving and transporting dishes to the kitchen as needed. May also deliver meals to residents in their apartments when required.
  7. Completes assigned cleaning tasks according to established protocols and utilizes appropriate cleaning agents.
  8. Keeps workspaces tidy and organized.
  9. Ensures that dishware is readily available for upcoming meals.
  10. Stores dishes appropriately to prevent contamination.

Reports to: Food Service Director and Lead Cook

Qualifications:

  1. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  2. Genuine interest in working with senior residents; must possess a friendly and compassionate demeanor.
  3. Must be at least 18 years old and pass a background check.
  4. Must undergo a physical examination by a licensed medical professional and pass a drug screening.
  5. Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.

Compliance and Sanitation Standards:

  1. Adhere to local health department regulations and Oaks Senior Living policies.
  2. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.
  3. Ensure proper food storage and handling in line with infection control practices.
  4. Maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.

Knowledge Requirements:

  1. Understanding of state food handling and kitchen regulations.
  2. Familiarity with OSHA standards.
  3. Knowledge of fire and safety protocols.
  4. Ability to operate kitchen appliances safely.

Physical Requirements:

To successfully perform the duties of this position, the employee must be capable of executing key physical tasks for extended periods. Proper body mechanics and safety protocols must be followed. In a typical workday, the employee will:

1. Stand or walk for up to eight hours.

2. Sit for up to two hours.

3. Frequently support weights of up to 30 pounds.

4. Frequently lift or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.

5. Frequently kneel, bend, and reach as needed.
