Reservoir Data Engineer

Job Summary:
The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a highly skilled Reservoir Data Engineer to join our team in North Austin. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a talented group of Engineers, Data Scientists, and Geologists to develop innovative solutions for carbon capture, utilization, and storage.
About the Position:
We are looking for a talented individual with a strong background in data science, machine learning, and reservoir engineering. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing various machine learning models and neural networks, as well as a broad skills base with deep expertise in certain areas such as geomechanics, stratigraphy, 3D seismic interpretation, log analysis, and/or basin modelling.
Responsibilities:
- Research and development in reservoir engineering and data science with a focus on application to carbon capture, utilization, and storage.
- Fund raising from state, federal, and industry to carry out fundamental and applied research in relevant topics.
- Public outreach and communication of the research results, including attending conferences and meetings.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in petroleum engineering, computer sciences, electrical engineering, civil and environmental engineering, geophysics, or a related field. The candidate should have a proven capacity for innovative, creative scientific analysis, as well as expertise in developing various machine learning models and neural networks. The candidate should also have a broad skills base with deep expertise in certain areas, such as geomechanics, stratigraphy, 3D seismic interpretation, log analysis, and/or basin modelling.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the application of various advanced data & analytics and statistical methodologies to large geophysical, petrophysical, geologic, reservoir, and other subsurface data sets. Knowledge of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is also desirable.
Compensation and Benefits:
The salary for this position is $65,000. The University of Texas at Austin offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
Working Conditions:
- May work around standard office conditions.
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
- Occasional weekend, overtime, and evening work to meet deadlines.
- Occasional travel intrastate, interstate, and international.
- Occasional fieldwork as necessary.
