This Plumbing Journeyman role requires skilled work in the installation, modification, and/or repair of plumbing and related systems, equipment, and fixtures. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of plumbing practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment, as well as the ability to supervise the work of skilled and semi-skilled subordinates.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and lay out work for the installation, repair, and maintenance of water, air, gas, sewer, steam, and hot water heating and distribution systems.
- Supervise and inspect the installation and repair of plumbing pipes, sinks, traps, valves, faucets, vents, pumps, and similar equipment, fixtures, and apparatus.
- Estimate job labor and materials costs, maintain job and cost records, and requisition materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Conduct regular inspections of work in progress and on completion, and participate in the more complex plumbing tasks.
- Confers with officials on proposed plumbing projects and makes recommendations.
- Recruits and trains skilled and trades helper personnel.
- Establishes safety and work performance standards for subordinates.
- Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school and 5 years of related experience and considerable experience as a journeyman plumber or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of the plumbing trade.
- Thorough knowledge of the prevailing codes of the plumbing trades.
- Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work.
- Ability to supervise the work of skilled and semi-skilled subordinates.
- Ability to analyze defects in plumbing equipment and to determine necessary repairs.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and to lay out work from prints, rough plans, sketches, drawings, and broken parts.
- Ability to make estimates of labor and materials needed for plumbing jobs.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with personnel of other departments.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing and orally.
- Skill in the use and care of the standard tools and equipment of the plumbing trade.
- Ability to work in any weather element/condition.
- Ability to work with management and safety on any critical lift plans.
